Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) crews are working quickly and safely to repair power outages caused by Wednesday morning’s severe thunderstorms and damaging winds in northeast Wisconsin.

So far, crews have restored power to more than 7,000 customers. All available crews, as well as extra contract crews, will continue to work throughout the day to get the lights back on for all affected customers.

This morning’s storms caused significant damage. WPS crews are working through the hot, humid conditions to repair downed wires and remove fallen trees and branches from electric equipment to restore power to customers.

As it works to complete these repairs, WPS also is closely tracking the potential for more severe weather this evening. Crews will be ready to respond if additional storms cause new power outages.

Customers who are without power can report their outage and receive the latest information on estimated restoration times using the WPS app or the company’s online outage map. Estimated restoration times may change if crews find significant damage.

WPS strongly urges customers to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wire they encounter. Report downed wires to WPS or a local law enforcement agency immediately.

Many communities and service organizations are offering cooling centers as hot, humid weather remains across Wisconsin. Customers can contact 211 to find cooling centers available near them.

WPS appreciates its customers’ patience as it works as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to them.
