  • Project adds 15 MW of solar energy for WPS customers
  • Will provide enough energy to power more than 4,500 homes

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin has unanimously approved Wisconsin Public Service’s (WPS) purchase of a portion of the Dawn Harvest Solar Energy Center. WPS will own 15 megawatts (MW) of the facility — enough to power more than 4,500 homes.

“Today’s decision is another key step in executing our ‘all of the above’ energy strategy that supports continued reliability with investments in a balanced mix of energy sources, new technology and stronger equipment to harden the grid,” said Mike Hooper, president — WPS. “The Dawn Harvest project will serve customers year-round and is expected to reduce fuel costs and take advantage of available federal tax credits, helping keep energy costs down for our customers.”

We Energies, the sister company of WPS, will be the majority owner of the Dawn Harvest Solar Energy Center. Madison Gas and Electric also is a co-owner of the project. The facility is expected to begin serving customers in 2028, following construction and testing.

The project is being developed by Invenergy, North America’s largest privately held developer, owner and operator of innovative, reliable power infrastructure.
