Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) and its sister utility We Energies filed plans with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in October to purchase two new large-scale renewable energy projects. In total, the projects would add 165 megawatts (MW) of new solar power to the grid. That is enough energy to power about 50,000 homes.

If approved, the Good Oak Solar Farm and Gristmill Solar Farm projects will be built in Columbia County, Wisconsin, using union labor and workers from across the state.

The Good Oak and Gristmill projects build on the plan WPS and We Energies filed in September to acquire five more renewable energy projects. In total, those projects would add 500 MW of new solar power, 180 MW of wind power and 100 MW of new battery storage to Wisconsin’s grid.

All the proposed projects save on fuel costs — and provide benefits to customers through tax credits.

If approved, the facilities would be jointly owned by WPS, We Energies and Madison Gas and Electric (MGE). The power produced would serve customers across the state.
